Lol, no this doesn’t mean you should literally die but i’m sure you knew that.

Die to self’- some Christians see this as putting things of your old life to death, most especially the sinful ways and lifestyles we once engaged in and Romans 6:6 supports this.

  • We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.“

I absolutely agree with this but after attending Bible study last week, I found out that I personally needed to die to self in another way as well and this is supported by Luke 9:23

  • ”Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.“

This made me realize that I had not died to self in my academics.

I’m currently in medical school almost in my final year and I received the most amount of failed and bad grades I’ve Ever gotten in my life this year. This absolutely hurt but most especially it started affecting my relationship with Christ.

I started becoming an experiential Christian as I like to say. Experiential Christians to me are Christians that their relationship with Christ is contingent on what they are experiencing in their lives. I started missing Church, missing Bible study, prayed less because I thought ‘it just wasn’t working’, why? Because I had done all those before but I still felt like i was still in the situation I started off in.

Then last week I finally left my bed and attended Bible study where we discussed ‘Dying to self’ among other things and it really stood out to me.

If I truly was supposed to learn from and obey Luke 9:23, i had truly failed to take up my cross and most importantly I had failed to follow Him with said cross.

When I finally had a cross that seemed so heavy for me (failures in med school), I groveled and laid there in the sand turned mud with my tears, instead of taking that cross and following Him.

So now I’m trying to take what’s happening in my life, pick it up and follow Him and actively seek Him everyday and not despair in the process AKA die to self.

I can’t tell you it’s easy by any means. In fact some days I went back to groveling but that Word in Bible study really blessed me and does push me a lot more now on really rough days.

  • QUESTION

So in what way have you felt you have not truly died to self in your life and how are you planning on rectifying that?🙂

CLOSING REMARKS:

Hey! I’m not sure if you are Christian or not and you just stumbled on this post, but if you’re not, and you feel led to give your life to Christ, you can pray the following and believe in your heart that the Lord has heard and answered you and you’ll be part of the Christian family :) (it’s pretty cool over here honestly 😎)

THE SINNER’S PRAYER:

Dear God, I know that I’m a sinner and I need a Savior. I want to turn away from my sinful life to the life You have planned for me. Please forgive me my sins. Cleanse me of my past, make me new. I know Your Son, Jesus Christ died for me. I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. At this very moment, I accept, confess, and proclaim Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior…to live in my heart from this day forward. Thank you Jesus for Your grace that has saved me from my sins and has given me eternal life. Please send Your Holy Spirit to guide me, and to help me do Your will for the rest of my life, in Jesus’ name Amen.

❤️Rejoice, for Heaven has gotten another one (Luke 15:7)❤️
